The editorial team at Academic Press is dedicated to ushering its authors through the three main phases of the book publication process (editorial phase, production phase, and distribution phase), particularly through the editorial phase, which includes the following stages.
Receiving your text
Our editorial team receives and examines your text. Within one week, you will be informed about the possibility of its publication.
Internal editorial assessment of your manuscript
Our specialized editors evaluate your manuscript’s quality and compatibility with our publishing house’s series, in which case your manuscript will also be submitted to the series' scientific committee for approval. It is also possible to publish books outside our series in related disciplines or thematic areas.
We examine each manuscript individually and offer a personalized, expert appraisal of your publication project.
Signing your publication contract
Once the publication is approved, a publishing contract is signed between the author and the publisher. Key elements of this contract include the duration of the agreement, royalties, copyright, and the delivery date of the physical work.
At this point, two original versions of your manuscript will be supplied to us: one in PDF format and one in Word format.
Peer review process
All our books undergo a peer review process. During this process, your manuscript is assessed by one or more academic experts in the relevant field. These experts provide our publishing house with an independent report on your manuscript’s content, quality, and target readership.
Proposals for reworking your manuscript
Based on our editorial team’s assessment and expert reports, we propose a series of adjustments to align your text with our formal requirements and editorial policy.
Proofreading
Once the editing has been completed and the publication’s text has been finalized, your work is proofread (for spelling corrections and formatting) by one of our proofreaders, all of whom are multilingual and hold a doctorate in their respective field from a university in French-speaking Switzerland. Additionally, all our proofreaders have been approved by the scientific committees of our various series.
Book production
At this stage, the book’s layout is completed. Our books are produced quickly and efficiently by our production and design departments, who take into account your wishes for the cover design and the book’s interior.
Final proof approval
After the production stage, the proofs of the book are submitted to you for proofreading, correction, and final approval.
Book release
Your book is now available and ready for distribution. The Academic Press team will maintain an ongoing dialogue with you to ensure your book is promoted to the right target audience and receives the appropriate scholarly and media coverage.
